BREED: Retriever Mix

SEX: M

BACKGROUND: Meet Roger, left to die on a chain while his "people" moved. They left him and his siblings behind with NO food, NO water and secured by chains! Roger, in the worst shape of all of them, laid on death's door. Unable to stand or even lift his head when he was found. Roger was so anemic and death was imminent if he didn't get an immediate blood transfusion. Fortunately, the shelter notified us and begged us to take him under rescue so he could get a MUCH needed blood transfusion. With the help of A Shelter Friend, he received his transfusion and just in time. AND having an amazing foster, Britany, say yes, we were able to accept Roger into our rescue.

Silvia Kim and her vet got him in and after one transfusion, Roger was like a new pup. Still very much underweight and weak but soooo much better! We all breathed a sigh of relief. He came to us and our foster was waiting with open arms. Through her focus on his care, Roger is now ready for his neuter AND to begin looking for his forever home.

NEEDS: Roger is very sweet! His foster shared with us: "He is a very sweet guy for real! Definitely going to be a velcro dog. Loves to cuddle and gives 'hugs' but can definitely be left alone and is fully kennel trained. He is even at the point where he goes and lays in there during the day when the door is open.

He is very food motivated and fairly easy to train. Has a HUGE hatred for squirrels LOL! He was a big jumper and climber but that habit is broken for the most part. I think with his personality he would be good in an apartment for someone who is having a hard time finding a dog to fit that size/breed standard, but he does like running in a yard. He needs more time with men.... still nervous around them but he is getting better."

HEALTH ISSUES: Poor Roger was grossly underweight (by at least 15-20lbs). Bones were protruding with NO fat whatsoever. This precious guy needed a chance. He is, unbelievably, heartworm negative right now (and hopefully will stay that way). He's been dewormed and now is ready to start his core vaccines. These were delayed due to a severe infection on his nose that has now completely resolved! Due to his vaccine status, we have not been able to dog test him, but we will when he's more protected.
